I saw this contest advertised on the Marine Photobank Facebook Page (I liked it) and learned that they are part of SeaWeb, an ocean conservation non-profit organization that uses visual imagery, both underwater and above water photography, to depict how humans have affected life in the ocean.

The California Coastal Commission, the California Thank You Ocean campaign, and Fairmont Hotels of California are sponsoring this photo contest that seeks photographs that reflect the importance that the coast and ocean has for California residents and the role that the Coastal Commission, Natural Resources Agency and Ocean Protection Council have played in preserving coastal and marine resources.

Four winners will be announced. Online voters will select a “viewers’ choice” winner, while a panel of professional photographers, naturalists, and Coastal Commission and Thank You Ocean staff will select “judges’ choice” winners for first, second, and third place.
