Tulane Environmental Law Clinic worked with LEAN (Louisiana Environmental Action Network) to keep a Japanese corporation from opening its plastics plant in a poor primarily African American neighborhood in New Orleans where the toxic exposure was already extreme. There is a 30% elevated cancer rate in the “cancer corridor” between New Orleans and Baton Rouge on the Mississippi. Poor people always suffer more from pollution – both on the job and in their neighborhoods. Very relevant, considering all the recent negative coverage Monsanto has received recently.
